MAJORS LAKES BEARSTED, MAIDSTONE
Majors Lakes is a coarse fishing syndicate situated in the village of Bearsted on the outskirts of Maidstone in Kent.

HISTORY
The lakes were constructed in 1894 as a duck shoot and over the next 100 years gradually silted up until in 1996 when there was only 2 feet of water in the deepest part.

1998 the lakes were completely drained and thousands of tons of silt were removed and dumped in specially constructed pits. When refilled with water the deepest part was 14 feet with depths varying from 4 feet upwards around the edge of the lakes.
During the de-silting works all the fish were removed for safekeeping and when the work was completed only selected fish were reintroduced. These were mainly Common Carp, Mirror Carp and Roach. Thousands of Skimmer Bream were removed by the Environment Agency and since that time an ongoing policy of restocking has taken place. Large numbers of Tench have been stocked, together with Crucian Carp, Grass Carp, Rudd and Gudgeon.
In autumn 2003 two new species were introduced, Stillwater Barbell and Stillwater Chub. These fish have been spawned and reared in lagoons and have never known running water. They are now entering their sixth year and on 6th Jan 2006 one of the chub was caught, weighing an incredible four and a half pounds!!!
The lakes are situated in a beautiful five acre woodland site which has been fully landscaped and fenced. There is plenty of parking on site and access is only available via a locked gate giving maximum security to members.
In 2008 the lakes were purchased by English Country Sports which secured its future. A number of improvements have been made to the lake and the grounds including the creation of a new Dry Fly Fishing lake. Approximately 100 Rainbow Trout were introduced in the summer of 2008. These are now reaching weights of around 5 ½ lb plus.

Perch were also introduced to the main lake and are making very good weights.
